This is an action-packed itinerary that takes you from the bustling city of Dar es Salaam to the vast, open plains of Mikumi National Park, often compared to the Serengeti for its abundant wildlife.

Day 1: Dar es Salaam to Mikumi National Park

• Morning: Your professional Vian Tours and Travel guide will pick you up from your hotel in Dar es Salaam at an agreed-upon time (typically early morning, around 7:00 AM). You’ll begin the scenic drive to Mikumi National Park along the main A7 highway. The journey takes approximately 4-5 hours, offering views of rural Tanzanian life and the Uluguru Mountains.
• Afternoon: You’ll arrive at the park gate around midday. After a picnic lunch, you’ll immediately begin your first game drive. The park’s open Mkata Floodplain is a fantastic place to start, as it attracts large herds of giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, and buffalo.
• Evening: As the sun begins to set, you’ll drive to your lodge located just outside the park for a well-deserved dinner and a relaxing overnight stay.

Day 2: Full-Day Mikumi Exploration

 

• Morning: After an early breakfast, you’ll head back into the park for a full day of game driving. Your guide will take you to different areas of the park to maximize your wildlife viewing opportunities.
• Afternoon: You’ll have a picnic lunch in a designated spot inside the park. The afternoon game drive will focus on the various water sources, including the famous hippo pools, where you can get up close (safely!) with hippos and crocodiles. The birdlife here is also spectacular.
• Evening: You’ll return to your lodge for dinner and a chance to share stories of the day’s incredible sightings. You can also relax at the pool or bar.
